May 12, 1997 - Tornado hits Miami, poses for photos, videos
One of the most photographed tornadoes in history touched down in downtown Miami at about 2 p.m. on May 12, 1997. Even before everyone had cell phone cameras, scores of amateur photographers and videographers captured this EF-1 funnel as it zoomed through the downtown area and across the Venetian Causeway. Television news cameras atop high-rise buildings captured thrilling live footage of the storm, from formation to dissipation.
