May 27, 1965 - Mysterious land deal near Orlando revealed

The Miami Herald ran a banner headline on its front page: "Giant Land Deal Near Orlando Revealed."
"A Miami law firm working with $5 million in cold cash has quietly engineered one of the biggest Florida land deals in years," the story said.
The firm has purchased 30,000 acres of "strategically located" land.
Reporter Clarence Jones couldn't nail down the reason for the purchase, but stated the land could become "the state's largest industrial complex."
"Hottest current speculation" says it will be used for an atomic energy accelerator laboratory and space park, possibly run by the Ford Motor Company or McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corp., the report said.
Another possibility is some sort of "Disneyland East" amusement park bigger than the original Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. Walt Disney was at Cape Canaveral several weeks before but denied he was considering a new venture in Florida.
Bankers and real estate agents have been trying to find out for months what's going on but "if any outsiders know, they aren't telling."
